[doorbell rings]
Martin!
Martin: Got it!
[phone rings]
Hello.
Hey! I'm Sarah. - Martin: Hi Sarah. Right. I'm Martin.
Sarah: Nice to meet you. - Martin: Nice to meet you.
Sarah: Hey! - Pam: So pretty. Love your necklace.
It's my mother's from the seventies.
Flea market. Aren't you glad big, cheap jewelry is back?
Oh, it's fabulous.
Carl! - Carl: Hi Pam!
Welcome! Oh aren't you sweet.
Hey Tom. Vanessa. This is Carl.
Hey.
Carl, this is Sarah.
Hi.
Hi Sarah. My name is Carl.
[laughs] Nice to meet you.
You too. Hey, how's it going.
Hey man. Come on in. Let's get you a drink.
Sooo- what do you think?
I'm shocked to admit that I think, you know, cute.
Interesting.
Told you.
He works at Cal Tech. Knows everything about everything.
Why is he single?
Why are you single?
[doorbell rings] Coming!
Would anyone like an appetizer?
I'll take that.
Oh, she wanted me to pass them out, I think.
Yeah, she wants me to tell my grizzly bear story. I'll not going to do that either.
[laughs]
[group laughing]
So every night the, um, tourists would come down from the, um, cruise ships down to this little wooded amphitheatre
and, uh, I would stand at the bottom basically surrounded by trees and I would, um
and I would tell them about the aurora borealis.
So, um, one night I'm doing my spiel and, uh, the northern lights are flashing
and I start to hear this like, um,
grunting [group laughs]
from, uh, from the trees behind me.
Literally I could feel the earth shake as this thing is walking behind me. [group laughing]
So, uh. So so being an experienced outdoorsman, I did what you might expect-
I ran. [group laughs]
[music playing. Group chatting and laughing]
So when's the big one, Carl? [laughs]
I'm sorry, everyone asks you that, right?
Your guess is as good as mine.
[group chatting]
Sweetheart, do you think you could give Sarah a ride home?
Sure.
Hey. - Carl: Coffee? - Sarah: Yeah.
Sarah: Yes, you did. Thank you. - Pam: Oh good.
Hey. Did I get the right one?
Yeah.
Yes, you did. Thank you.
[sound of engine] I love your car.
I love the purr of a diesel engine.
That one. Right there.
Would you like to come up?
No, I'mÖ I can't.
But thanks.
Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.
Oh, my pleasure. Did you bring anything else?
No, I think that's everything.
[clock ticking]

Tell me you do understand that he "couldn't" come up to the lady's apartment because he had seen her cheating (namely, stealing the clock). She, upon hearing him decline the offer, felt her coat pocket, knew the clock was now absent, knew that he knew what she really was and quietly went away. I do not understand your post.
