2012 Like My Community™ Winners

Here are the winners of Liberty Mutual’s community-based initiative.

In July, Liberty Mutual agents in Baltimore, Dallas-Fort Worth and Milwaukee embarked on the second year of the Like My Community™ project, an ambitious program to improve their communities. Agents within each city nominated a local cause on dedicated Facebook pages, where people could vote for their picks, giving the top 3 scoring causes in each city the chance to win $30,000 each.

With voting now tallied for the three winners in each city, a grand total of almost $100,000 will be distributed in each of the three communities (along with a few unexpected bonuses). Here are the results of this year’s Like My Community™ program:

Baltimore

Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation - This organization provides hospital and respite housing services to critically ill children and their families during a child’s medical crisis.

Kennedy Krieger Institute - Kennedy Krieger Institute is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with pediatric developmental disabilities and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system through patient care, special education research and professional training.

SARC (Safety, Awareness, Resources, Change) - SARC is Harford County’s lifeline to victims, potential victims and survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence and stalking. They stop the pattern of violence by providing a safe haven that offers hope, empowerment, opportunities and educational tools for new beginnings.   

Liberty Mutual also awarded three runners-up with an unexpected $3,500 each to support improvements and renovations within their organizations. The runners-up are Baltimore Child Abuse Center, Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, and St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center.

Dallas-Fort Worth

This Side Up Family Center – This organization aims to strengthen the family unit through intentional fun, connection and education at one great location. 

North Texas Food Bank – Through a network of 1,000 feeding programs in 13 North Texas counties, North Texas Food Bank distributes donated, purchased and prepared foods.

Frisco Family Services – Frisco Family Services provides a safety net to help families and individuals support their independence through assistance with utilities, mortgages and payments for prescriptions. 

Liberty Mutual also awarded four runners-up with $2,500 each to support improvements and renovations within their organizations. The runners-up are Wilkinson Center, Family Gateway, Jonathan’s Place, and Heroes for Children.

Milwaukee

One Heartland - One Heartland annually serves thousands of suffering and at-risk children in the US, including those afflicted by poverty, HIV/AIDS, grief, Tourette’s Syndrome and other obstacles.

COA Youth and Family Centers - This array of educational, recreational and social work programs – offered through urban community centers and a rural camp facility – fosters growth and social interaction among Milwaukee children, teens and families.

Running Rebels - Dedicated to developing Milwaukee's youth mentally, physically and spiritually, the Running Rebels community organization offers programs that focus on education and recreational activities.

Liberty Mutual also awarded four runners-up with$2,500 each to support improvements and renovations within their organizations. The runners-up are MACC Fund, Pearls for Teen Girls, Repairers of the Breach, and Hope House.
